Client Overview

PluginFind (www.pluginfind.com) is a WordPress plugin discovery platform built around a clear problem: finding the right plugin for a specific WordPress project is harder than it should be. The official plugin directory serves as a comprehensive repository, but its search and filtering capabilities leave much to be desired - returning broad, noisy results that make it difficult to compare options meaningfully or identify the most suitable plugin for a given requirement. PluginFind was conceived as a smarter alternative: a cleaner interface, richer plugin data, more useful search and comparison tools, and a more considered experience for developers, agencies, and site owners looking to make informed plugin decisions.

The Challenge

Building a plugin discovery platform is a significantly more complex proposition than building a standard informational or service website. The platform needed to ingest, organise, and present data from a large and continually updated plugin ecosystem - doing so in a way that was fast, intuitive, and genuinely more useful than existing alternatives. At the same time, it needed to be discoverable: a platform solving a search problem that nobody can find in search has a fundamental credibility issue.

The brief covered the full scope of the project: design, development, content, search engine optimisation, and performance analysis. The platform needed to launch in a position to compete for organic visibility in a space where established players have significant head starts, and to continue improving its search performance and user experience iteratively after launch.

Our Approach

Design & Development

The platform was built on WordPress, with a custom architecture designed around the specific requirements of a data-rich discovery tool. Plugin listings, category structures, comparison functionality, and search interface were all built as bespoke components rather than adapted from standard WordPress templates - ensuring the platform could handle the scale and complexity of the data without the overhead of solutions designed for different purposes.

Organic discoverability was built into the platform's architecture from the outset. URL structure, content hierarchy, metadata strategy, and internal linking were all planned with search performance in mind before the first line of code was written. The rapidly evolving landscape of AI search - including how platforms like ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews, and Microsoft Copilot surface and cite content - was factored into the SEO strategy, ensuring the platform was positioned not just for traditional search but for the way WordPress users increasingly discover tools and solutions.

Content & Performance

Content was developed to support both user needs and search visibility - informational content addressing the questions WordPress users have about plugin selection, alongside the platform's core listing and comparison content.
