The Asperger's Syndrome Foundation is a registered charity based in central London, committed to promoting awareness and understanding of Asperger's Syndrome - now diagnosed as High Functioning Autism or Level 1 Autism. The Foundation provides support groups, one-to-one direct support, and educational resources for individuals, families, and professionals, and operates the London Saturday Club, offering adults with an autism spectrum condition a trusted, inclusive space to socialise and connect. It is a small but important organisation doing vital work in a sector where digital presence directly supports the ability to reach those who need help.

The Foundation's website had not been actively maintained for a considerable period. Software across the entire stack — PHP, WordPress core, the active theme, and all installed plugins - had fallen significantly out of date, leaving the site running on unsupported versions and exposed to known security vulnerabilities. The hosting environment was poor, contributing to slow load times and an unreliable user experience that did not reflect the quality of the organisation's work.
Beyond the security and performance concerns, the visible state of the site told the same story. Page templates had broken in places, content formatting had degraded, and sections of the site presented poorly across device sizes. For a charity whose website is a primary point of contact for vulnerable individuals and their families, this was not an acceptable position to be in.
We began with a thorough technical audit, assessing the full extent of the issues before agreeing a structured plan of action with the Foundation's team. Transparency was important here - the organisation needed to understand exactly what had gone wrong, why it mattered, and what the remediation process would involve.
All work was carried out in a development environment before being applied to the live site, ensuring no disruption to the site's availability during the remediation process. PHP, WordPress core, the active theme, and every installed plugin were updated in sequence, with compatibility checked at each stage. Security vulnerabilities were addressed systematically, and a full malware scan was carried out once the core remediation was complete.
With the technical foundations stabilised, we turned to the front-end. Page templates were reviewed and corrected throughout, content was reformatted where it had degraded, and the overall presentation of the site was brought to a consistently professional standard. The site was then migrated onto 1WL's managed hosting infrastructure, replacing the underperforming original environment with a faster, more reliable platform.
The Foundation's website now operates on a stable, secure, and up-to-date platform that appropriately represents the organisation and the people it serves. The remediation work addressed vulnerabilities that had been accumulating for an extended period, and the move to managed hosting delivered a measurable improvement in site speed and reliability.
The ongoing monthly support programme ensures the site never returns to the state it was in - all WordPress systems are kept current, security is monitored, and any issues are resolved promptly. The Foundation's team can focus entirely on their charitable work, confident that their digital presence is in good hands.
